The free attraction of Mt. Gui Trl in Checheng,Pingtung, is just a 30-minute drive away. Public transportation in Pingtung is not well-developed, so it’s recommended to drive to attractions for convenience. The Guishan Trail is no exception. It takes about 60 minutes round trip, and the ascent is gentle with few stairs, making it suitable for seniors over 60 to complete. It’s a nice spot for a leisurely stroll, and when you reach the top, you’ll be rewarded with stunning views of the Pingtung coastline. It’s a great destination for outdoor activities.

Entrance area

Mt. Gui Trl.Equipped with a parking lot, you can walk directly to the trail after parking.

Trail scenery

Slowly walking and chatting with the tour group, even accompanied by seniors in their 70s, whose stamina was remarkable. They walked much faster than us.

You’ll first arrive at a small observation deck where you can rest and enjoy the scenery. The view here is average, with the grass being a bit too tall and obstructing the view somewhat.

The observation point on the other side is much better, offering breathtaking views of the beautiful bay. No matter how you take photos, they all turn out stunning. Many people like to take group photos here.

After enjoying the ocean view, you can begin your descent. On the other side, there’s a gentle slope for descending. Along the way, you’ll encounter old military bunkers, which are perfect spots for Instagram-worthy photos. One of these bunkers has a square window that captures some truly good moments.

It’s a good time in Mt. Gui Trl.Even as a self-proclaimed homebody like me, walking is quite easy. I don’t even break a sweat much because there’s a bit of wind on the mountain. Just be cautious with your hat and personal belongings. It’s a great idea to take a stroll in the afternoon when the sun isn’t too intense.
